I guess the rating guides have changed since I was a kid. We brought Andy and Justin to see Speed Racer tonight and had Ryan go to Grandma's for a little one on one time :) I thought we were being good parents breaking the bedtime a little bit and having some fun before it was back to school.
Speed Racer...sounds innocent enough, right??? I want to know when all of this is rated PG...
Crotch shot from behind of a very thin woman in a very tight swim suit as she walked out of the room.
A kid sticking up his middle finger at some guy being a jerk.
Some guy being tied up and tortured (getting the living hell beat out of him anyway) until he gave in...which he didn do, so he got dumped out the back of a very fast moving semi truck all was all bloody.
Some swear words. (Dont really remember which ones)
Lots and lots of guns, shooting, and explosions where it is obvious that people are dying and getting hurt.
Some guy screaming in pain as he sticks his finger in a hole in an aquarium to plug the leak (dont remember for sure...probably cause by gun fire though). This aquarium is filled with Pirranahs and they are eating his finger tip off and the water is getting all bloody- but the "boss man" wont let the guy take his finger out- he just wants to save his "babies".
And at the end a kiss...which isnt too bad, but they made a joke about a warning that it was graphic to those who havent passed the cootie stage and then went on to finish the kiss.
I dont know. There is more that I am forgetting to write...but IF I would have known this ahead of time, I would SO not have brought them! Maybe I am just an uptight fuddy duddy with my kids...but I really dont want them seeing that kind of stuff yet. It would have been good for maybe an 11 year old or something. So God, what the hell is a PG-13 movie like...soft porn or some kind of horror movie?
Thanks :) Really, I would have thougt that PG was really PG- especially in a kids movie..but who am I??? I did like the movie though...just a bit much for a 3 and 5 1/2 year old.
ReplyDeleteIt had repeated voilence and it seemed pretty realistic to me (esp. since its not even a cartoon) so I would have givin it the PG-13 rating, but I guess thats why they dont have people like me on the panel deciding the ratings! It wasnt all bad...just more than I expected for sure!

Yeah, when we had our girls night out, Bob brought all 4 kids to this one by himself and said that it was really graphic, but that the kids liked it, granted our kids are older, but I agree, by the looks of the commercials, it looked like it would be totally fine for younger kids they really need to re-evaluate how things are rated.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with you Krissy! I think the ratings are way different than when I was young. It's crazy the stuff you see in PG, PG13 and even R movies (some I think should be rated X).
